This Virginia Chardonnay is primarily barrel-fermented and barrel-aged. Harmonious and smooth, this wine is designed to exhibit the soft, toasty character of the French oak barrels balanced with the varietal character of the chardonnay fruit. The wine will stand up to rich foods such as grilled tuna, lobster, and game birds.
The wine is named
in honor of the "12th Acte" passed by the First Representative Assembly
of the New World, at Jamestown Island, in 1619. The Governour and Counsell
enacted laws of which the 12th read as follows: "Moreover ..., that every
householder doe yearly plante and maintaine ten vines, untill they have attained
to the arte and experience of dressing a Vineyard, either by their owne industry,
or by the Instruction of some Vigneron. And that upon what penalty soever
the Governour and Counsell of Estate shall thinke fitt to impose upone the
neglecters of this acte."
