2018 Monticello Viognier

Varietals: 100% Viognier

Limited Release!

A bright clean wine with hints of pineapple, green apple, mandarin orange, fresh stone fruits and lemon.  Along with the fruit aspect is a wonderful minerality bordering on limestone.  Just next to the fruit and minerality is a very nice layer of creamy vanilla that reminds me of Nilla Wafer Cookies.  The finish is clean and lingers with the tropical minerality before descending into the cookie!  A great wine for salads.

2018 Monticello Pinot Gris

Varietals: 100% Pinot Gris

Limited Release!

This wine exhibits some pleasant notes of apple, orange, apricot, pineapple and papaya/guava.  Additionally, there are some fresh berry notes that add a nice dimension to the fruit.  All the fruits are held together with a lemon/lime and vanilla backbone.  There is even a little hint of vanilla jello pudding (in a cup).  The finish is very clean and carries some of the fruit aspects.  Overall an easy-going wine that will pair well with many lighters style foods.

A wonderfully aromatic wine with some clean tropical notes along with orange blossom, lemon, apricot and banana notes. There is a quaint essence of sweet perfume and a flower bouquet. Behind the fruit and flowers is a clean minerality and a touch of vanilla, yeast and a hint of orange honey. On the palate the wine is fruit forward with the perfume and flowers enhanced. The wine is very clean and bright with a long finish. Overall a very well balanced wine with a rich creamy full bodied effect. This will pair well with a lot of different foods so try it with everything!

2018 Wessex Hundred Albariño

Varietals: 100% Albariño

A wine similar to a viognier but with more aromatics.  Initially there is a wonderful wild flower, perfumed, botanical quality which leads into the peach, pineapple, pear and apricot notes.  There is also a minerality to the wine that blends well with the fresh cut hay. The best way to describe this wine is to picture yourself in the middle of a field of wild flowers breathing deeply while eating a fresh peach/apricot (best done after pollen season).  A very well-balanced wine with strong aromatics that linger a long time.  I really like Albarino, I like it a lot.

2018 Wessex Hundred Chardonnay

Varietals: 100% Chardonnay

2018 started out with very cold temperatures in January and continued throughout most of the winter.  The cold weather was followed by an unusually wet spring.  Some rains coming when the vines were beginning to flower, an important process in the grape development and a time when heavy rains are not wanted.  The summer was consistently hot and humid with the humidity never seeming to abate.  The fall started out with drier conditions allowing for some good grape development and then towards the mid and later part of the fall the rains returned.  Overall a hot, humid and wet vintage that Mother Nature throws at us occasionally to test the fortitude of the growers and winemakers.

2018 Wessex Hundred Viognier

Varietals: 100% Viognier

New Release!

This wine sports some very tropical notes of pineapple, mango, and orange along with some fresh lemon zest.  With the tropical notes there is some dried apricot, peach and rhubarb.  There is also a nice floral aspect that almost verges on perfume.  Just behind these fresh fruit notes is a creamy caramel/honey and vanilla aspect that creates a pleasant dimension to the wine.  The finish is long and clean with the tropical notes coming through and then it flows into that creamy vanilla.  Grandmothers pineapple upside down cake in a bottle.

2018 A Midsummer Night's White

Varietals: 64% Traminette, 24% Petit Manseng, 12% Viognier

A Midsummer Night's White is potentially the most elegant iteration with many layers of green apple, honeysuckle, pear, apricot and tropical notes of kiwi and guava. There is a pleasant fresh vanilla bean and spice aroma that pairs well not only with the fruit(s) but with the lemon and honey layers along with a hint of chalky limestone. The mouthfeel is very round and full, with a lot of creamy tropical nuances that linger for a long time. Overall the wine blankets the senses with creamy fruit which can at times appear as a tropical meringue. I think this may be the best Mid-Summer Nights White to date.

2018 Wessex Hundred Dry Rosé - SOLD OUT

Varietals: Cabernet Franc and Vidal Blanc

An elegant style Rosé with hints of ripe red fruits and creamy vanilla.  Behind the strawberry is a bit of rhubarb and tart apple and a hint of peach.  The mouthfeel has a bright creamy finish with the fruit aspects showing through nicely.  The finish is clean and fruit forward with a touch of exotic fruit.  A Rosé for all occasions from the fire pit to a Parisian inspired picnic.

2018 Virginia Dry Rosé

This dry Rosé bursts out of the can with bright fruit notes reminiscent of strawberry, cherry and tangerine.  The fruit is so fresh and so clean that you may even think we actually juiced the fruit directly into the can, but, we promise it’s just grapes!

2018 Petit Manseng, Virginia

Varietals: 100% Petit Manseng

New Release!

A wonderfully tropical wine with nuances of fresh crushed pineapple, mandarin orange, banana and papaya. With these tropical layers is an aromatic honeysuckle and wildflower layer. The wine is bright and has a clean minerality that pairs well with the lemon and creamy pineapple feel. The wine has a long lingering tropical finish that will pair amazingly with Chesapeake Bay Oysters!

2017 Petit Manseng, Virginia

Varietals: 100% Petit Manseng

A wine offering luscious orange, mandarin and creamy banana notes.  Along with the fruit, there are wonderful notes of gardenia, fresh wildflower, and grass with a slight touch of perfume.  The brightness of the wine is well matched with the minerality and fruit. This is a very elegant well balanced wine with a finish of fresh fruit and flowers.  This reminds me of the orange cream trifle Stacey makes.

2018 Virginia Chardonnay, Stainless Steel Fermented

Varietals: 100% Chardonnay

The stainless steel chardonnay is characterized with upfront fresh fruit notes of pear, peach and granny smith apples. The fresh fruit notes are enhanced by the bright lemon/lime character that give the wine a lovely bright affect. Just behind the fruit isa touch of coconut and almond. The wine has a clean fruit forward mid palate that carries through to the finish. I really like the crisp clean fruit forward notes of this wine, with the hint of coconut and believe it will be a great addition to any chardonnay lineup.

2018 Viognier, Virginia

Varietals: 100% Viognier

New Release!

A nice clean bright wine with pleasant tropical notes of pineapple and papaya along with some stone fruits (peach & apricots), green apple and lemon.  The fruit is married nicely with a touch of minerality.  The brightness and the fruit components are well balanced with the creamy vanilla mouth feel.  The finish is clean and lingers on the palette.  A juicy fruit forward wine with a touch of an unctuous nature.

2017 Viognier, Virginia

Varietals: 100% Viognier

This stainless steel Viognier is characterized with a classic tropical notes of pineapple, kiwi, passion fruit and a touch of peach.  Next to the tropical notes is a pleasant floral character that is enhanced by a touch of lavender.  The wine is very clean and bright and offers a fruit forward sensation on the palette.

2017 Acte 12 Chardonnay

Varietals: 100% Chardonnay

Visually the wine has a beautiful golden straw color. The fruit aspect of the wine is soft yet carries some weight. There are some green apples, pears, nectarines, dried apricots and honeydew melon, along some tropical pineapple and grapefruit. These are well balanced with some lemon rind and creamy vanillas. The three aging types of oak, stainless steel and concrete create a lot of varying layers with a touch of minerality. Overall the wine shows well integrated fruit with a clean bright finish. The oak is very soft and well balanced with the fruit. A classic chardonnay and one of my favorite Acte 12 in awhile.

2018 Virginia Sauvignon Blanc

Varietals: 100% Sauvignon Blanc

The 2018 Sauvignon Blanc has a distinct upfront citrus and lemon pulp. Intertwined with the heavy citrus are some bright tropical pineapple and, grapefruit notes. Behind these layers is a quite tart strawberry nuance that flows into a coastal grass tone. Overall the wine is well balanced with an old world tradition. The finish is bright and clean with the citrus and tropical aspects showing well. This wine will pair very nicely with the bounty of Coastal Virginia.
